Treat Hemorrhoids

Treat Hemorrhoids - Most people would never dream that one day they would be searching for information to treat hemorrhoids.  Then again, these same people have probably never heard of the 50-50 rule!  Most authorities would agree that 50% of the population will experience hemorrhoids by the time they are 50 years of age, hence the 50-50 rule.  With such a large percentage of people  seeking to treat hemorrhoids, it is no wonder that late night television is loaded with ads that address this very need.

Treat Hemorrhoids
- Fortunately hemorrhoids or piles as they are affectionately referred to, are generally not life threatening.  They can be annoying, uncomfortable, swollen, itching, burning, inflamed or all of the above which is why a prudent  person would want to treat hemorrhoids as soon as possible.

In society, we find many factors that can predispose a person to develop and subsequently seek to treat hemorrhoids.  Such medical conditions as obesity, pregnancy, constipation, diarrhea, or genetics and aging, have all been implicated.  Additionally, some non medical conditions such as a diet low in fiber content, lack of any activity such as exercise,  and occupational hazards such as heavy lifting  or periods of long sitting or long standing have also been found to be root causes.

The best way to treat hemorrhoids is through prevention.  there are several things a person can do which will prevent the development of hemorrhoids in the first place.  Most of these are considered life style changes and since people are creatures of habit, if they do not make the requisite changes, medications and or surgery may be warranted.  These changes include:

An increase in water consumption, at least 8-10 glasses per day
Avoiding long periods of sitting or standing
An increase in dietary fiber by eating more fruits, vegetables, grains and beans which in turn aids proper bowel habits
Avoiding any straining like heavy lifting or difficulty in moving your bowels which can be due to constipation
Incorporating some light exercise into your daily routine such as walking

If prevention is not enough to help you in your search to treat hemorrhoids, you will have to step up to the next level of treatment which includes medications.  This can include over the counter preparations found in every pharmacy such as ointments, creams and suppositories which decrease the itching, burning and inflammation.  It also includes  stool softeners like docusate which help to eliminate any straining during a bowel movement. You will also find fiber supplements if your dietary changes are not enough to help with regularity.

A person might also want to try some natural remedies as opposed to harsh chemicals.  Here we see botanicals such as grape seed extract, pile wort, and butcher’s broom.  On a more familiar front we have aloe vera ointment and witch hazel both of  which are very soothing and healing.  All these natural substances have palliative properties to relieve the discomfort while navigating the pathway to treat hemorrhoids.

The final step when all of the aforementioned has not brought long lasting relief is some type of  surgical intervention.  Here we see hemorrhoid banding, cauterization, sclerotherapy  and in the most severe cases, a hemorrhoidectomy may have to be performed.
